Is there a best time of the year to sell my house?

While the best time of year to put your home on the market may appear to be the summer months, the reality is houses sell at any time of the year – even over the Christmas holidays!

In Canada, we do have some pretty serious weather to contend with in January, February and sometimes even March, so if there is a slow time of year – it is during those cold winter months.  If you are planning to put your home up for sale in the Spring, then these are the months to speak to your realtor, get him or her to write up a “To Do” list (see post #5) and get to work crossing off those items one by one.

The best time to sell your house?  When your To DO list is complete, your future plans are in place, and the whole family is on board to keep the house ship shape for showing.

One tip, if you are going to wait until the Fall or winter to list, have your realtor take some Spring and summer photos of your home and gardens when they are at the height of all their glory.  If you have extensive gardens, include a portfolio of shots and have it available for the buyers to peruse during a January showing.
